Construction contractors must register with the State of Iowa. To get an application to register call (515) 242-5871, or contact the Iowa Division of Labor. You do not have to take an exam to register; however there is a $25 fee, and some proofs you must submit.  Contractors must show proof of compliance with the worker's compensation law and obtain an employer account number from the Division of Job Service before making an application. Call  (515) 281-5387 or (800) JOB-IOWA to contact the Iowa Division of Workers' Compensation. Out of State contractors must provide surety bonds ranging from $1,000 to $50,000. Iowa does not have reciprocity agreements with any other states. Every Contractor is expected to pass the OSHA exam.
